How to Play the Spades Card Game

Spades is played with a standard 52-card deck (plus optional jokers). Each player is dealt 13 cards. Players bid on how many tricks they expect to win. The spade suit is always the trump — it beats any other suit in a trick.

• You must follow suit if possible.
  
• If you can’t follow suit, play a spade (trump) or discard.
  
• The highest spade played wins the trick.
  
• First to reach 200 or 500 points (set before play) wins the game.
